Shobhraj

**Shobaraj** (sometimes credited as **Shobhraj**) is a veteran Indian actor who predominantly works in the Kannada film industry. With a prolific career featuring in more than 250 films, he has established himself as one of the most recognizable and formidable antagonists and character actors in Sandalwood.

Born and raised in Bengaluru, Karnataka, he completed his higher education at National College, Bangalore. A massive admirer of the legendary actor Vishnuvardhan, Shobaraj entered the film industry with a deep passion for cinema. He made his acting debut in 1990, gaining early recognition with his performance in the hit musical drama *Chaitrada Premanjali*.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Shobaraj became a staple in Kannada action and commercial films, widely celebrated for his menacing on-screen presence and powerful dialogue delivery. He delivered an iconic performance as the primary antagonist, "Black Tiger", in the blockbuster action thriller *Police Story* (1996). He went on to play crucial negative and supporting roles in numerous highly successful films, including *Lockup Death* (1994), *Sangliyana Part-3* (1997), *Yajamana* (2000), *Shabdavedhi* (2000), and *Simhadriya Simha* (2002).

Beyond his signature villainous roles, Shobaraj has successfully showcased his versatility by adapting to character roles in recent years. His extensive filmography includes memorable appearances in major hits such as *Deadly Soma* (2005), *Suntaragaali* (2006), the historical epic *Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna* (2012), *Power* (2014), and *Kotigobba 3* (2021). He has also expanded his presence into other South Indian industries, taking on supporting roles in a few Tamil and Telugu films.

His impactful contributions to Kannada cinema have earned him critical appreciation and accolades, notably winning the Aryabhata Film Award for Best Villain in 1997 for his performance in *Chikka*. Today, he remains a highly respected and active figure in the Sandalwood industry.
